Cycle route along the Vliet and the Nieuwe Driemanspolder
Zoeterwoude, Leidschendam, Voorschoten
Between Leidschendam-Voorburg, Zoetermeer and Stompwijk, the Nieuwe Driemanspolder was created in 2020. What used to be pasture is now a nature area full of bird ponds, marshland, walking paths and wildlife. This route takes you right along the edges of this fresh piece of Dutch nature.
Stompwijk is a village that sits along the Stompwijkse Vaart, once an important route for inland shipping. You’ll still see lots of small drawbridges and swing bridges over the canal. It’s also close to bird pond Starrevaart, a popular spot for birdwatchers with binoculars or cameras at the ready.
Voorschoten is another green village on your route. It includes the Duivenvoorde Corridor, named after the nearby castle, which is part of the Dutch national ecological network.
These beautiful nature spots, combined with the charming historic centre of Leidschendam, make for a great day out on your bike.
