Cycle route along the city and sea

Alkmaar, Heiloo, Bergen
This cycle route takes you through the city and along the sea. Cycle through the dunes in Bergen aan Zee to the charming town of Alkmaar. This town is famous for its cheese market, so a visit to the Cheese Museum is a must! Not interested in museums? Then just take a stroll around the square and admire the beautiful buildings around you.
From Alkmaar, you cycle towards Heiloo, passing Bollendorp. Contrary to what the name suggests, this place does not derive its name from flower bulbs but from hills, similar to the Frisian name “terpen”.
Further on, in Egmond-Binnen, you will find the Sint-Adelbertabdij. This is the oldest abbey in the Netherlands, founded in the tenth century. The monastery played an important role in the war between the Hollanders and the West Frisians and used to be an important library.
This cycle route takes you partly through the North Holland Dune Reserve, for which you need to purchase an access card from the administrator PWN via www.pwn.nl/duinkaartkopen. Please also note the access rules, indicated on their website and on the signs along the way.
