Brabant Monastery Trail | Around Breda

Breda, Oosterhout
Cycle a varied route through town and countryside! This beautiful cycle route takes you on a fascinating tour through the green countryside above historic Breda. You start and end at the Heilige Driehoek in Oosterhout, a place full of peace and history. Take a look in the monastery shop of the Norbertinessen van Sint-Catharinadal and breathe in the fresh forest air at Boswachterij Dorst.
Cycle along the canals to the heart of Breda. Discover the tranquil Breda Begijnhof, hidden in the middle of the city. A simple stone arch and a heavy door lead you to this other world. Here, peace and devotion reign. The Begijnhof is a special stop on your route: a historic monument where the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará, better known as the Blue Sisters, now live.
You will encounter this tranquillity more often along the way. In the woods, along the heath and along the water. Cycling across the Vrachelse Heide, you are invited to pause for a moment: what do you hear, what do you smell, what do you see? Paying attention to your surroundings makes this trip a valuable experience. This route offers ample opportunity to do so.
North Brabant has hundreds of monastery buildings, more than forty of which are still inhabited. The Brabant Monastery Trail takes you past these special places, on foot or by bike. More cycle tours of the Brabant Monastery Trail can be found at visitbrabant.com/kloosterpadfietsroute.
