A special transition area: the city Schagen belongs to the municipality of the same name, but part of the landscape also lies in Hollands Kroon. This place is therefore designated as special provincial landscape.
Behind you lies a landscape that cannot be caught in straight lines. The plots here follow an irregular pattern. Block-shaped and irregular: a typical feature of old natural landscapes. In front of you lies a somewhat more regular landscape. The lines become straighter, the parcels younger.
In this wide area meadow birds such as black-tailed godwit, redshank and lapwing have free play. The wet grasslands, silent meadows and open skies offer perfect conditions to breed and grow up. The variation between ditch, polder and open space makes this environment a true bird paradise.
Also look to the side, behind the high row of trees. There stands a stolp farm, recognisable by the pyramid-shaped roof. A stolp is not an ordinary farm: it is a home, workspace and storage in one. This characteristic building style belongs inseparably to the North Holland landscape.
