On the banks of the Zaan, on the Zaanse Schans, you will find De Tinkoepel: an 18th-century tea house that now serves as one of the last active pewter foundries in the Netherlands. Tin casting workshop Holland, a family business since 1898, is currently run by the third generation of tin casters from the Blaauboer family. They make tin objects by hand, using authentic bronze moulds, some of which date back to the thirteenth century.
Visitors are welcome to experience the craft up close. You can see how tin is melted and cast, and there are opportunities to try your hand at workshops. The Tinkoepel is not only a workshop but also a shop where you can find a wide range of handmade pewter products.
In 2014, Tingieterij Holland was awarded the title “Masters of Folk Arts & Crafts” at an international exhibition in China, in recognition of their craftsmanship and dedication to preserving this craft.
