The Walderveense Mill - Walderveen
Before 1895 there was a post mill on this site. When the grandfather of the previous owner settled here as a miller in 1895, he demolished the dilapidated post mill and built a scaffolding mill. This mill burnt down in 1911 due to a lightning strike; only the stone base remained intact. A new mill was built on this substructure in 1912, using parts of a mill that may have come from North Holland. It is not excluded that this mill was in Friesland. During the war years, the mill served as a military lookout for the Germans and later the Canadians.
