Jacobus Arminius, born in Oudewater, was professor of theology. Between 1608 and 1618, his revolutionary vision of free will almost triggered a national civil war. On his 'own square', the Arminiusplein in Oudewater, is a stainless steel bust of the professor. This bust has been placed to honour him.
