Sparta is a real Dutch bicycle brand. On 1 September 1917 Mr. Schakel, Mr. Verbeek and Mr. Krijgsman started a wholesale trade in bicycles and bicycle parts. In the same year they bought the brand names Sparta, Romein and Vaandel. A year later Krijgsman withdrew and both gentlemen continued under the name Verbeek & Schakel.
