Sandenburg Castle was mentioned as early as in the 14th century. Many a watchtower was built in this area due to the conflict between the bishop of Utrecht and the duke of Gelre. Many of these watchtowers have grown into proper castles as has Sandenburg. In 1792 the knights’ capital fell into the hands of the van Lynden family. To this day the family Van Lynden van Sandenburg lives in the house. All buildings were renovated in the 19th and 20th century with careful preservation of the monumental and historical features. The place is privately owned and is being used as office space and event location.
