Roosevelt Information Centre and Regional Museum De Meestoof - Sint-Annaland

N 51.600451660036 / E 4.1009176411397

Between old fruit trees and dikes in Sint-Annaland you’ll find Regional Museum De Meestoof, located in a former mayor’s house with distinctive barns. The museum shows how life on Tholen and Sint Philipsland developed over the centuries. Wander through furnished period rooms, an authentic schoolroom, local tools and an impressive collection of traditional dress. Outside, there’s a blacksmith’s forge, a carpenter’s workshop and even an original mayor’s office.

The name ‘Meestoof’ refers to the madder industry, once important to this region. Madder was used to make red dye, which was traded worldwide. Along with fishing, farming and the rhythm of the tides, it shaped daily life on these islands. History comes to life in the museum through objects, photos and stories from local people.

A special part of the museum is the Roosevelt Information Centre, opened in 2021. Here you can discover the Zeeland roots of the famous American presidents Theodore, Franklin and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Through panels, videos and documents, you’ll learn more about their legacy and their link to this region.
