Part of the village of Nieuwveen has been designated a protected village view. It includes the Kerkstraat, the Dorpsstraat and part of the polder behind the Dorpsstraat. Along these streets, there is a variety of buildings in terms of architecture, function and age, which are representative of the development of the village.
Within the protected village view are a number of characteristic buildings, including the Reformed Church and the Oudheidkamer. The church is centrally located and thus forms the visual axis and historical structure of the village. The Oudheidkamer is housed in a building dating from 1897, which was originally built as a meeting place for the ‘Vereniging tot Drankbestrijding voor Nieuwveen en omstreken’ (Association for the Prevention of Alcohol Abuse in Nieuwveen and the surrounding area). It is now a museum and meeting place for the Liemeer Historical Society.
