The field kiln was built in 1872 as part of the De Groenlanden brickworks, founded by Robert Janssen from Nijmegen and Frans van de Loo from Doornenburg. This kiln is the oldest type in the brick industry and the last of its kind in the municipality of Ubbergen. Until 1900, the kiln was used to produce bricks. Later, a modern ring kiln was built, and despite extensive modernisation in 1960, the factory finally closed in 1972.
You can still admire the impressive remains of the field kiln. The walls are approximately 20 metres long, 1.30 metres thick and approximately 5 metres high, with eight firing holes at the bottom.
