Just outside Deventer, hidden between the wide IJssel floodplains, you will find the special Observatory Keizersrande: an artwork by the Dutch artist Krijn de Koning.
At this location stands the ruin of an old brick factory, once part of the brick production along the river. In 2014 De Koning gave this ruin new life by turning it into an observatory: he outlined the remaining walls with striking constructions that direct your view towards the wide river landscape.
From the observatory you have an open view over the floodplains along the IJssel. The river, the grassland and the changing water levels ensure the landscape looks different each time. The artwork invites you to walk around for a moment, pause at the view and take in the surroundings. A pleasant stop during your cycling trip, where you notice how close nature is here, just outside the city.
