On the edge of the Twickel estate lies the Noordmolen, an oil mill with a long history. There used to be a corn mill here too, but it disappeared in the early 19th century. Over time, the oil mill fell into disrepair until the building was restored in the 1970s on behalf of the Twickel Foundation.
In 1984, the mill was fitted with a new water wheel, and five years later, the interior was also restored. Since then, thanks in part to the efforts of volunteers, the mill can once again be seen in operation on a regular basis.
The mill uses traditional methods to press linseed oil. Visitors are often spontaneously given an explanation of the process and the history of the mill by the millers.
Even outside opening hours, the Noordmolen is a special place on the estate: hidden among greenery and water, where several cycling and walking routes converge.
