Nieuwkoopse Plassen - Nieuwkoop
The Nieuwkoopse Plassen Nature Reserve is special. The water in the lakes is slowly becoming overgrown and you can see the different stages of silting up: from water plants to forest.
The beginning of the silting process is particularly important for many plants and animals, which is why Natuurmonumenten regularly digs up silted areas so that the process can start again. This results in many special plants and animals, such as the northern vole, the purple heron and the green-winged orchid. Who knows, you might even see an otter swimming.
