Nature reserve De Poel

Nature reserve De Poel - Kwadendamme

N 51.440553 / E 3.875353

In the Middle Ages, this area was used for salt extraction, which sagged grasslands. That has given the area a unique character. It consists of two parts: the Hedge area and the Goose area. In the Hedge area blackberry and hawthorn function as a natural fence, in spring it is a beautiful white sea of flowers. White-fronted geese forage in the Geese area in winter. De Poel is a paradise for birds such as the Dunnock, Linnet, Mockingbird and Garden Warbler. They love the red hawthorn berries
