Six thousand hectares of primal nature of wondrous beauty on the border between Drenthe and Friesland. Endless wandering in this National Park, where the protection of nature is paramount, along forests of oak, pine and fir, along meandering streams, shifting sands and vast heathlands.
Here, pine marten, roe deer, salamanders, lizards, vipers and many other animals live among the bell gentian, wolf claw, sundew and lavender heather. In the Drenthe part you will find burial mounds, dolmens and other traces of habitation from the Late Stone Age. In the Frisian part lies the Canada Lake and the Bosberg Tower.
At various places in this National Park you will find a visitor centre, such as in Diever, Appelscha, Doldersum or Hoogersmilde.
