In this Brabant museum, you are taken on a journey through village life in Brabant in the past. In the extensive miniature park, with 250 buildings at a scale of 1:20, Oosterhout around 1920 is brought back to life in all its details: from churches and shops to factories and tanneries. You follow the old tram line from around 1900 and imagine yourself back in time.
In the Flemish barn, built with original trusses from 1739, you are introduced to twelve old crafts. Here, you can see a cooper, blacksmith, shoemaker, clog maker and tanner at work, as well as special machines, such as a device for making the Oosterhout cinnamon stick. The indoor museum then offers a glimpse into daily life between 1900 and 1960, with furnished rooms such as a living room with box bed, a small school, a printing shop from 1916 and the mayor’s room. Every second and last Sunday of the month, the printer is present and you can try your hand in the printing shop to make a name card.
In addition, the museum has a washing and collection room with antique washing equipment, irons, pottery from the former “De Toekomst” factory and an impressive dance organ. In the drying shed, historical means of transport can be seen, while the nostalgic coffee room and sweet shop provide a tasty conclusion to the visit. The latter two are also accessible without visiting the museum.
Facilities such as audio tours, wheelchair accessibility, free Wi-Fi and a charging point for e-bikes make Museum Oud-Oosterhout accessible and welcoming for everyone.
In the winter months, the miniatures are moved to the workshop for maintenance, but from April to October the park forms a lively open-air setting full of recognisable scenes.
