Museum Martena & VVV Franeker - Franeker
The name Martena refers to the original builder of this former Castle, nobleman Hessel van Martena. He had it built in 1506 and his family occupied it until 1696. After that, it served as accommodation for wealthy residents of Franeker. The museum still features many historical and luxurious elements that recall this rich history. From the basement to the attic, every room is characterised by special details and impressive ornaments, bringing the splendour of the past to life.
