Mudflats of Bommenede - Zonnemaire

N 51.72096089857 / E 3.9756138383325

This nature reserve forms a bird-rich shore of the Grevelingen. More than 400 bird species breed here. Among others, the harrier and the arctic tern can be found here. The little tern, avocet and common tern also find their nesting place here. In spring, robins and cuckoos can be seen here. The birds find a fine habitat among the sea buckthorns, willows and many bushes.

Due to the salty water of the Grevelingen, the mudflats are overgrown with glasswort and sea blite. Flowers such as the grass of Parnassia and the marsh helleborine bloom colourfully in spring.

The island in front of the mudflats is the main nesting place for birds. In summer, cows graze on this spot, keeping the vegetation in check. You cannot visit the island, but from the dike and the harbour you have a beautiful view of the nature reserve.
