Monumental village Valthe - Valthe
Valthe is one of the most beautiful villages in Drenthe that you really must have experienced. In Oud-Valthe you will find beautiful, monumental Saxon farms and centuries-old oaks.
The Hallenhuis farm is a special one, some 250 years old! At this farm, a sheepfold and heating sheds have been added. At yet another farm, the barn, named Ponderosa, housed the village school. And so there are many more stories to discover about these monuments.
Another unique piece of Valthe's history is the Valtherschans, a defensive work from the 16th century. Although a replica now stands, numerous archaeological finds from the original entrenchment have been found. In 2022, archaeologists even found a cannon. Visit the reconstructed Valtherschans and learn more about its ramparts, canals and military history.
