The standerd mill was founded in 1533 as a city corn mill. In 1852, the mill was sold to a private individual. Whether this is the current mill is not known. In the twentieth century, the mill fell into disrepair. In 1965, the municipality of Hardenberg bought back the mill ruin and had it restored in 1968. The mill was last restored in 1996.
