Mill Het Jonge Schaap (The Young Sheep) - Zaandam
The Jonge Schaap is a sawmill from 1680. The mill was used to saw wood. Due to the arrival of steam sawmills, Het Jonge Schaap became redundant in 1935. A rescue plan for the mill unfortunately failed due to the outbreak of the Second World War. After the mill of the Schaep family was fully surveyed and drawn at the end of the 1930s, it was demolished.
The Schaep family owned several mills. Of these, Het Jonge Schaap was the latest acquisition. They were active in the then new industry of wood sawing and had previously owned sawmills called Het Witte Schaap and Zwarte Schaap respectively. The rebuilt Jonge Schaap was put back into operation in 2007.
