N 51.543556957966 / E 4.1482650316804

Mill De Korenaar in Poortvliet has a rich history that goes back to 1710 and therefore belongs to the oldest mills in the region. It was built as a successor to an older wooden post mill. De Korenaar already came to stand slanted during construction, as a result of which it has a slight inclination to this day. The mill is a round stone tower mill and is protected as a national monument for its cultural historical value.

Like many other grain mills De Korenaar used to be crucial for local grain processing and thus the bread and feed production process. The mill has two pairs of millstones and once also received mechanical aids such as electric motors to lighten the work. In the course of time the mill has undergone various restorations, among others in the 1980s and 2010, as a result of which it remained capable of milling and could even be used on a voluntary basis.

Nowadays De Korenaar is out of operation and not continuously open to the public, but it still turns on special occasions or on a voluntary basis. The interior and the original mill mechanism are still present, as a result of which a visit is a real dive into history.
