Mill De Held Jozua (The Hero Joshua) - Zaandam
Mill De Held Jozua (The Hero Joshua) was built around 1719 as a paltrok-wood sawmill. The mill is located in the Westzijderveld, 300 m. northwest of the NS-station Zaandam. The mill with its timber sheds and water features gives a good idea of what a wind sawmill looked like in earlier times.
Gradually, the mill fell into disrepair. Fortunately, the complex was thoroughly restored and a restaurant has been established in the outbuildings. In the Zaan region as a whole, no fewer than 367 sawmills existed, making them by far the most important of the industrial mills.
