Meppel has a rich history as a printing town. The Printing Museum brings this history to life. The museum is located in a monumental warehouse in the centre and shows the evolution of the art of printing. From the first forms of communication to the printing techniques of the 1950s. Volunteers demonstrate crafts such as typesetting, printing, paper making and bookbinding every day. This brings the printing house back to life.
In 1695, Jan Lensink, the first printer in Drenthe, settled in Meppel. Four generations of his family worked as “landscape printers”, and their products can still be found throughout Drenthe.
