Marechaussee (Military Police) Museum - Buren

N 51.9118536 / E 5.3366554

Experience the world of the oldest police organisation in the Netherlands: the Marechaussee (Military Police). In the Marechaussee Museum you will discover the past, present and future of the Marechaussee. From its establishment in the Napoleonic era in 1814, when officers went on foot and horseback, to the modern and professional Marechaussee of today.

There are collections of uniforms and weapons and stories about peace missions, among other things. In the garden there are five vehicles which you can climb into to turn on the flashing lights. In the laboratory, you can try out your own detective work. The museum offers exciting treasure hunts for children.

The museum is located in the Royal Orphanage, which was built in 1612. Maria of Nassau, daughter of William of Orange, commissioned it at the time. The orphanage is still owned by the royal family. The Marechaussee Museum also devotes attention to the history of the orphanage.
