In the years 1779-1780, two polder mills were built to dry a depleted pond and then to keep the polder at the desired level.
Nowadays, the mill drians, with the Lijkermolen II, the Veender and Lijkerpolder. It functions as an auxiliary pumping station and is used for extreme flooding. The Lijkerpolder has approximately 540 hectares. The head is approx. 4.20 m.
Special: Together with Lijkermolen II, these mills are the only twelve-sided mills in the Netherlands.
