his wooden boardwalk near Bathorn is part of the Kunstwegen art route, which stretches across the Dutch-German border. The path runs through a former peat-cutting area, where the history of the moorland is still tangible. Along the way, you’ll find several artworks in nature.
You walk over the wooden path, gently winding at times, through forest and peatland. With each step you feel more connected to nature. The artwork Ein Weg durch das Moor by artists Peter Fischli and David Weiss (1999) responds to its surroundings: the winding route, the reference to peat, the bog, and the silence.
What makes it even more special is that the boardwalk follows the very ditches that prisoners of Camp Bathorn were once forced to dig.
