The Kattenberg is a burial mound located in the middle of the forests of Bergeijk. In the past this was the scene of gruesome witchcraft.
On this burial mound the witches danced all night long hand in hand, or rather paw to paw. In order not to be recognised as witches, they turned themselves into black cats. If a man passed by on his own, the witches lured him into the circle and forced him to dance along. Sometimes with fatal consequences.
That is why all men avoided this place. But Dorus, the miller, still had to work at night to grind grain.
One night he is harassed by the black cats, after which he runs out of his mill. His miller’s helper does not believe a word of it and dares to grind the grain the next night. But he too is attacked by the cats. He lashes out with an old sabre, after which the cats quickly run away. But they have left something behind: the chopped off finger with a ring. The ring of Dorus’ missing wife.
After searching for his wife in several places, he is sure of it: Dorus must go to the Kattenberg. There he will find her again. He puts all his fear aside and dances with the cats all night long. And then he suddenly feels that one of the cats is missing a knuckle. Is it Dorus’ wife?
