House De Berencamp in Nijkerk is a historic estate with a rich history dating back to the 17th century. The house was permanently inhabited by prominent and noble families, including the lords of De Berencamp. Originally the house was completely surrounded by a moat, but at the beginning of the 19th century the moat was filled in.
In 1906 the estates De Berencamp and the nearby Salentein were merged and the parks were redesigned in landscape style, as was fashionable at the time.
On the estate stands a remarkable 17th century dovecote, a national monument that recalls the time when keeping pigeons was reserved for the nobility. The old toll house, once used for collecting toll on the nearby road, is also still part of the estate.
