House and Estate De Wamberg has a rich history, unique architecture and a carefully designed landscape. Its origins go back to the fourteenth century, when the Grote Wamberg was built as a tenant farm around 1370. Around 1510 a playhouse or summer residence followed. The current main building grew from a stone house from the late sixteenth century and was expanded in 1769, the nineteenth century and again in the early twentieth century.
Architecturally the house is remarkable with its L shaped floor plan and mix of styles. The oldest part has stepped gables, a slate saddle roof, a stone doorframe and a geometric fanlight. Later additions show Flemish gables, divided windows and a stair tower. Inside, several historical features have been preserved, such as a seventeenth century fireplace with benches and a room with a fixed glass cabinet under a broken pediment.
On the estate you will also find a coach house with gate building, a barn, a gardener's house from the late nineteenth century and smaller details like a well and decorative fencing.
The estate covers about 155 hectares and was landscaped in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century in English style by the Van Rijckevorsel family. There are long lanes, ponds, vistas and water features, planted with native and exotic trees. You will also find forests, meadows along the Wambergsche Beek and the Loopgraaf, and several old Kempen style farms. Surrounded by water, De Wamberg is a unique combination of architecture, garden and landscape with great historical and architectural value.
