Hoekelum Castle was already mentioned in 1325. The estate measured 2000 hectares. At the end of the fourteenth century, the Duke of Gelre gave the estate on loan to a hunting master. In the sixteenth century, Hendrik van Poelwijck bought the castle. After this, the castle changed hands several times and was rebuilt and restored many times.

Shortly after the Second World War, the castle was restored by Mr van Wassenaer, who left it to his daughter after his death.

The castle houses a restaurant.
