Het Stift in Weerselo is a protected village with a strikingly peaceful, secluded atmosphere. The history of this place dates back to the 12th century, when a Benedictine monastery was founded here. In the 14th century, the monastery was converted into a Stift: a religious community for noble, unmarried women. They lived in the small houses around the church and lived according to religious rules, without actually becoming nuns.
This special history is still visible today. Around the white church are characteristic Stift houses, with a layout that has hardly changed for centuries. A narrow cobbled road runs through the heart of the Stift, surrounded by greenery and tranquillity.
