Great Church Veere - Veere

N 51.5470037 / E 3.6676583

In the Grote Kerk Veere you will find a new story in every niche: about the church, its history, and its surroundings. These stories, also called experience, can be experienced by yourself because the newest techniques are used.

Step into the story of Veere as artist city, feel how Napoleon's sick soldiers were sweating with fever when the church was converted into a hospital. And maybe you'll even dare to glimpse Gries, the mummy cat that was walled into the church's foundations.

After climbing the church tower, enjoy the most beautiful view of Walcheren and end your visit with something tasty to eat and drink in Café Japi.

The Great Church of Veere is, as the name suggests, extremely large. That means cool on hot days and more than enough room for everyone.

The church is very suitable for a visit with the whole family: the various sections of the permanent exhibition are interesting and educational for young and old. Especially for children there is a treasure hunt with a coloring page. And if the children have done the search correctly, there is a gift waiting for them.

In addition, the Grote Kerk Veere is a cultural stage. Throughout the summer you can view the Ex Voto exhibition by internationally renowned artist Folkert de Jong. He has designed a fleet of ships made of colored candle wax that float in the nave of the church.
