In the New Stone Age (Neolithic) and Bronze Age, people buried their deceased loved ones in burial mounds or, if the person was cremated, placed in an urn after which a large mound was built over it. These mounds were often built in a row. The longest row of burial mounds in Europe can be found between Epe and Niersen.

At this spot, hidden among the trees, you can see a number of these prehistoric burial monuments.
