Grandcafé Jor's Molenzicht - Schoonoord

Jor's Molenzicht is a cafeteria and grand café with a lovely terrace. It is a good stop for an ice cream, lunch or dinner during a nice bike ride.

When entering the municipality of Schoonoord, the text 'Welcome to our giant village of Schoonoord' is written along the road. This has everything to do with a legend surrounding Ellert and Brammert, which is located in Schoonoord. The folk tale dates back to 1660. In this version, Ellert and Brammert are robbers; in later stories, the robbers grew into giants. influenced by the famous Drenthe hunebedden saga, which claims that the hunebedden were built by giants.

Ellert and Brammert are increasingly seen as builders of hunebeds in oral tradition from the 20th century onwards. On the Ellertsveld near Schoonoord is hunebed D49 (De Papeloze Kerk). The saga is also known in other parts of the world, although the protagonists are only known in Drenthe by the names Ellert and Brammert.
