Grain mill De Vier Winden in Sint-Annaland is a beautiful tower mill that dates from 1847. It is a round mill built of brick in the traditional Zeeland style and has stood in the same place for almost two centuries. This mill is a national monument and forms an iconic part of the village scene of Sint-Annaland.
The mill has for many years played an important role in the local agriculture by grinding grain for farmers and bakers. Until halfway through the 20th century the mill was active in grinding grain on wind power, but around 1952 it was mechanically converted into silo and mill, after which it was out of operation for some time. Between 1969 and 1978 a thorough restoration took place, including restoration of the milling capability with two pairs of stones.
Nowadays the mill turns with some regularity on wind power, but it is no longer used for production. You can visit the mill at moments when it is in operation. The miller is then often there to give explanation. Guided tours are possible by appointment.
