Goffertpark is perhaps Nijmegen's most famous park. Since its opening in 1939, it has played a central role in city life. It was created as a “work creation project” during a time of crisis, with hundreds of unemployed people shaping the park with shovels and wheelbarrows. It has since grown into a versatile city park with plenty to do.
You will find space to play sports, go for a walk or simply relax in the green surroundings. The park has a skate park, a petting zoo, a sports complex and the Goffertstadion, home to NEC football club. Large-scale concerts and events are regularly held in the open air. At the same time, there is also room for tranquillity: parts of the park have been designated as a nature zone with sloping paths and old trees.
The Goffertpark is large enough to offer something different every time you visit. Whether you come for a festival, a run or a coffee break on the grass, the park feels like a natural part of the city — and that's exactly what it is.
