A giant tulip bulb from the hands of artist Mary Willemsen, born and raised in Voorhout. She uses modern painting techniques, including for this tulip bulb. By using 'Pouring Medium', a technique in which acrylic paint is liquefied with water and other liquids, you get beautiful colours and shapes. Willemsen also used the 'Dutch Pour' technique (blowing paint out further with a hairdryer) and the Swipe technique (mixing paint by means of damp kitchen roll paper).
Because of these techniques, even Mary herself does not know in advance what her art will look like. Thus, the works are truly unique, spontaneous and intuitive and everyone can attach their own personal meaning to them. The tulip bulb can be found in front of the premises of Menken Beheer, which has adopted the artwork.
