Gezicht op Delft (View of Delft) - Delft
Get off your bike here and gaze across the water of the Zuidkolk towards the center of Delft. You can see the towers of the Old and the New Church that were also seen here centuries ago. Master painter and Delft artist Johannes Vermeer painted one of his most famous paintings 'View of Delft' right from this spot. Did you know that researchers have recently calculated that Vermeer made this painting on September 3 or 4, 1659, around 8:00 am? They used the sunlight on the artwork, studied old maps of Delft, used Google Earth to find and compare the location of buildings in the painting and did fieldwork in Delft itself.
The artwork on location dates from 1999 and was made by Thomas Elshuis to mark this special place.
