The Fortification at the Engelaar is a defense work that is part of the Grebbe Line. De Engelaar was built in 1799 on the Groeperkade and to defend the dam lock in the Lunterse Beek. This part of the Gelderse Valley was inundated with the water from this stream. At the beginning of the Second World War, they faught fiercely at the fortification at the Engelaar, today the work is peaceful and green.
