Fort Zuidwijkermeer was built in 1903 to protect the North Sea Canal. It has a number of special details. For example, the cellars have glazed tiles, because meat used to be stored here. Later, film producer EYE stored nitrate films here, which could not be kept in an ordinary depot because of the risk of spontaneous combustion.

The fortress has been transformed into a cheese paradise. The thick walls ensure a constant temperature, making it perfect for ripening cheese. More than 300 cheeses are stored there. Contact us to visit the fortress.
