Fort Island IJmuiden is part of The Defence Line of Amsterdam. The Defence Line was constructed around 1885 to defend Amsterdam. The fort on Fort Island is the largest of the entire Defence Line. Throughout the year, the IJmuiden Fort Island Association organizes public days. Almost every month you have the opportunity to sail into history. Several times a year there is a special day for families, Adventurous Fort Island. A tough day for the whole family.
