In the village of Twist, you’ll find this technically and historically interesting museum all about “black gold”: oil and gas. Surprisingly, this region once played a key role in its extraction. Natural gas was discovered here in 1938, and economically viable amounts of oil followed in 1942.
What can you experience today? The exhibition takes you through the geological origins of oil and gas. From 400 million years of history to the modern techniques of discovery, extraction and processing. Outdoors, you’ll see massive installations and equipment used in oil production, standing in striking contrast to the green landscape around them.
