On the right side of the road you can see a special mill pair consisting of two wipmolens. Along the Does stands the Does mill, which was built around 1630 for the Doespolder. This is the upper mill, which discharges the lifted water from the polder into the drainage canal.
A little further on stands the lower mill, which pumps the water towards the upper mill. This is the Kalk mill. The name comes from the fact that this mill originally stood in the Kalkpolder. From 1684 to 1959 it was used to drain the polder near Leiderdorp, until an electric pumping station was established.
Due to the dissolution of the polder in 1972 and large-scale construction activities in the following years, it was decided in 2006 to relocate the mill. The Doespolder was struggling with a lowered polder level, which made it difficult for the Does mill to drain the area. To solve this, the mill pair was established in 2009.
