Dijkpoort - Hattem
The economy was doing well in the Hanseatic era. Hanseatic cities became richer, but therefore also interesting for people who preyed on this wealth. Therefore, many cities were equipped with walls and guard gates. Hattem was no exception. The Dijkpoort from the 14th century is a fine example of this. Although it did not always look like this: when the tower was restored in 1908, the famous architect Pierre Cuijpers added a weather vane and roof and corner turrets. In addition, there used to be a front gate to the Dijkpoort; part of the connecting wall is still standing.
