Diefdijk - Leerdam

N 51.9117458 / E 5.12946

The Diefdijk is a special inner dike, built in 1284 as a side quay. In the 18th century, this dike became part of the Old Dutch Waterline. The dike was also part of the 19th-century New Dutch Waterline. De Diefdijk still serves as a fully-fledged (second) flood defense that protects the Alblasserwaard and the Vijfheerenlanden against flooding from the Betuwe.
