De Roosdonck windmill is named after the area in which it stands. The mill is still used for grinding grain and is thus a ‘living’ monument, worth a visit. The mill can be seen in the background in several sketches and drawings by Van Gogh.
Recently, pollarded birch trees have been planted near the mill. In 1884, Vincent made a pen drawing of pollard birches in Nuenen. During his Brabant period, Vincent made numerous drawings and paintings of windmills.
