City Park De Kartuis - Roermond
If you are in the centre of Roermond, try cycling to the Voogdijstraat. There, hidden behind old monastery walls, lies city park De Kartuis. Of course, you can sit on a bench and enjoy the various songbirds nesting in the park. Or check out the walls on which the rare arrowhead chickweed grows. Yet there is also much wealth hidden: cloisters, medieval houses, monks' cells and old barns lie under your feet and are not visible, except for one monks' cell made visible in the pavement. Also visit the devotional chapels from the 19th century and admire the various statues.
